Colin & Louis : Manga Love

By the age of twelve, Colin was fluent in three languages courtesy of his mother, a foxy lady from overseas who married a book keeper from the Westside. Growing up, being able to speak a variety of languages wasn't really much use to him [aside from family reunions]. Sure, he could read the menu at fancy restaurants, the newspapers in the more interesting parts of town, and watch awesome cartoons in their native language. But being able to swear incomprehensibly only got him in trouble at school and while it was fun at the time, his mother's idea of a good time and Colin's generally didn't mesh.

Colin was, overall, pretty average until his fifteenth birthday and the accidental discovery of manga. Suddenly, life was way more interesting. Tall, handsome, questing martial artists with guns and deep, dark, secrets suited Colin. It became his obsession, and the only reason to hold a summer job.

Which is where Colin met Louis...

It was the only memorable thing about that summer, aside from the smell of boiled cabbage in the hot, sweaty noodle stand where he worked as a server during the lunch rush. The only customers the place had where unsuspecting tourists and regulars so when Louis walked in, with his dark ears and tousled hair, Colin felt his heart jump to his throat.

The taller boy, shy-eyed and soft-spoken, looked like a cross between Moon Tomaku, Colin's favourite character, and an athletic underwear model. In otherwords, exactly like a manga hero.

Absolutely smitten, Colin spent the next few weeks learning everything there was to know about the older boy. Louis was more than just eye-candy; he was an athlete into everything, the oldest sibling in a litter of six, and a first year university student come fall.

And Colin was ears over tail for him.

Eventually their conversations migrated from the noodle stand to the movie theatre, to french fries afterward, and a kiss goodnight, where Louis finally admitted that he couldn't really pretend to like the ramen anymore and maybe they could just start dating...?

Colin barely managed a nod through his poorly contained excitement. It could only have been better if Louis were into big guns and swords.
